Worship

The foundation of who we are

and all we do as a Christian people

Sunday Mornings

The premier focus of our worship together as the Body of Christ is found in three services every Sunday morning, at 8:00, 10:00, and 11:00.

8:00 & 10:00 a.m.  Worship

These services share a character and setting in our sanctuary. Liturgy is richly lived out, never rigid or formal, but enlivening and dynamic. Songs and hymns from throughout the ages give voice to our faith, from strong chorales to words penned by our own pastors.  The music here is a definite highlight of life at St. Stephen’s, featuring our well-acclaimed new pipe organ and a weekly variety of instrumental support.  We are proud to use the new Evangelical Lutheran Worship hymnals

11:00 a.m. Christian Rock

Emerging Worship!  A New Dimension

Gathering Music & Fellowship at 11:00 a.m.

Holy Grounds Coffee Bar Open at 10:45 a.m.

If you’d like something a bit different, then our 11:00 a.m. Emerging rock service is for you! Still with an identifiable Lutheran liturgical format, the atmosphere is welcoming and fun. You’ll hear great contemporary Christian rock by our band, Steadfast, and you’ll love the intimacy of the communion circle and the devotion of lighting a candle to mark your prayers. If the friendly enthusiasm isn’t enough by itself, grab a cup of gourmet coffee from the Holy Grounds Coffee Bar!  You can follow these links to find out a bit more:

Tell A Friend! Bring A Friend!

Thursday Morning Prayer

8:00 a.m.

Ecumenical is a word that refers to a big house that all kinds of Christians really dwell under the same roof of God’s blessing!  Thursday mornings each week we host an ecumenical prayer gathering.  A half hour of song, reflection, and prayer (8:00 to 8:30 a.m.) is followed by coffee and treats. In addition to Lutherans, you may regularly expect to find Methodists, Catholics, Moravians, Presbyterians, and others in the circle with you!

Worship and Multimedia

Simulcast, Recordings, Sermon Copies

We make efforts to share our worship services! Worship is simulcast on Sundays on a monitor outside of the sanctuary, a great place for parents who need to step out of worship for a moment with children. (Nursery care and special activities for children are also available at all Sunday services.)

Cassette tapes are recorded of the service each week, and we are working on developing video recordings, including to be shared on public access TV. Hardcopies of some sermons are available in wall racks at church, or by emailing Pastor Nick.

Our Worship Life

Through a great variety of opportunities, we gather to be nourished by God, to have our life restored, to be ready to live lives of service for others!  Worship is rooted in God’s Word, as Jesus of the Bible is interpreted for our lives.  Music at St. Stephen’s is always dynamic and moving, whether on our grand pipe organ or from our rock band, Steadfast; whether new songs with trumpets or old songs a capella.  At all Sunday services, you will always have the chance to receive the Lord’s Supper. And in this community, all are welcome to gather ——young and old, children and adults to share in prayer for each other and the needs of the world and to be enriched by God.

Accident? Age? Special Circumstances?

We never know what might prevent us from worshipping together. We do know that it is our joy and call to serve one another in all times. Communion Ministers (“Links”) keep our homebound linked to worship and fellowship through regular visits and home communion.

Tuesday Staff Prayers

Your staff at St. Stephen’s gathers for devotions and prayer each Tuesday morning at 9:00 a.m. We pray for a segment of the congregation and for other concerns. We would love to have you join us for this time of prayer. If you have any prayer requests, talk to a staff member.

Faith and Healing

5th Sunday Healing Prayers

Whenever there is a fifth Sunday in the month, St. Stephen’s includes, during 8:00 worship, prayers for healing and anointing with oil. Are you curious about it? You are invited to turn to page 276 in our Evangelical Lutheran Worship book to see the order of service.

Praying for Peace

Monthly Prayer Vigil for Peace-20th Day

On the 20th day of every month, we especially dedicate ourselves to concerns of Peace and Justice in the Middle East. From 5:30 to 6:00 p.m. we share beautiful peace songs, light candles of vigil, pray, and hear reflections on current events focusing on Christians in the Holy Land, as well as volatility of conflicts and war in the region. Sometimes videos and Mediterranean food become part of our focus as well.
