Tim Hansen

Senior Pastor

Tim comes to St. Stephen’s with 21 years of parish ministry experience.  This has not deterred his excitement of new things.  He loves to help people consider the opportunities for ministry every day.  While writing, recording and playing music are certainly hobbies, Tim likes to stay active on the basketball court or on the golf course.  Tim is married to Lisa, a Registered Dietitian, and they have three children, Kai, Karin and Anders.

Nick Utphall

Associate Pastor

Nick has been at St. Stephen's for about five years now, his first call after finishing at Luther Seminary in St. Paul in 2004. He loves a good laugh in worship, but is serious about how God works through the liturgy to transform our lives. With a commitment to environmental and justice issues, you may find him in his garden or commuting on his bike. Nick and his wife, Acacia Latka, are responsible for cleaning up after Lydia the Tattooed Lady and Catalina Island, the feline residents of their house.

Jane Voss

Church Secretary

Jane's been our secretary for eight years and though she "loves her job," her #1 passion is "music" and especially singing. Other interests include: dinner theatre and any musical event, checking out flea markets and antique malls, attending Farmers Market on the square, volunteering at Boomerangs Resale Store, serving meals at Salvation Army  or just being outside and being involved in her church's various ministries. Jane says St. Stephen's is a wonderful environment to be working in and it's been especially rewarding to be able to minister to the people who come into the office so the next time you are at church, be sure to stop in and say "hi."

Dennis Douglas

Director of Music Ministries

Dennis serves as organist, choir accompanist, handbell choir director, directs instrumental and brass ensembles, and is responsible for administering the Music Ministry at St. Stephen's. Dennis is a graduate of Wartburg College where he received his BA in Music and French. In addition, he also completed the Leadership Program for Church Musicians (LPM), an intensive two-year course of study sponsored by the ELCA and the Episcopal Church.  Dennis served four years on the board of the Association of Church Musicians, and he continues to be active in that organization.

Karl Cinlar

Custodian

Karl grew up in the Chicago area and came to Madison to go to school.  In addition to his work at St. Stephen's, Karl volunteers at Community Connections Free Medical Clinic in Dodgeville and is a member of the Friends group at Governor Dodge State Park.  Karl enjoys many hobbies, among them are photography and music.

Rebecca Redmann

Adult Choir Director

Rebecca, a member of St. Stephen's since 2006, became the director of the Sanctuary Choir in 2007.  She plays an active role in the musical life of St. Stephen's by conducting a variety of instrumental ensembles, filling in on the piano (and occasionally organ), and regularly acting as a cantor for worship.  In addition, Rebecca operates a small vocal studio, teaching voice lessons and offering sessions in vocal coaching.  She is the founding member of Fagiano Trio (http://www.fagianotrio.com), a group which includes fellow St. Stephen's musicians, Dennis Douglas and Kristen Davies.  Rebecca earned bachelor's and master's degrees in vocal performance, and is currently a candidate for the PhD in Historical Musicology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Edward Johnson

Senior Visitation Ministries

Edward came on board at St. Stephen’s in January, 2010. He is an ordained elder in the United Methodist Church, recognized for 50 years of service at the Wisconsin Annual Conference. Upon retiring, he and his wife, Lorraine, moved to Madison. Their interests center around art, antiques, travel, sewing, entertaining and enjoying nature at their cabin. They have two sons, both married, Kenton living in Auckland, New Zealand, and Erik living in Bellevue, WA; and one grandson in Auckland, New Zealand. Edward is grateful for the opportunity to be in ministry at St. Stephen’s, which he finds to be most receptive and hospitable.
