The summer is flying past and it will soon be time to start the new program year with God’s Work, Our Hands Sunday. We need someone to coordinate/spearhead this event. National Youth Gathering!
Every 3 years, the ELCA has a National Youth Gathering and there is one coming in 2018 in Houston, TX! All students who are currently finishing 7th grade through those currently finishing 11th grade are eligible to go. There aren’t quite words to describe this event: at the very least inspirational and potentially life-changing. You just have to experience it for yourself. If you have any questions, please contact Pastor Elisa by email: pastor-elisa@ststlc.net or Jill Ruffridge at jruffridge@charter.net. Houston bound!

At St. Stephen's Lutheran Church, in "Agape Theater"

We are excited to announce the Martin Luther Film Series, a new event to celebrate this Reformation 500 year. Join us on four Friday evenings this summer for showings of films about the life and work of Martin Luther. Admission is free, but donations will be appreciated. Popcorn and drinks, and a state-of-the-art theatrical quality sound system, are included! There will be some time after the film for refreshments and discussion. Here is the schedule:
June 30: "Martin Luther" (1953) — the first full-length feature film about Martin Luther
July 7: "Martin Luther" (1974) — a film adaptation of the play by John Osborne; its Broadway production in New York earned the 1964 Tony Award for Best Play.
July 28: A Luther documentary, to be determined. We'll announce it as soon as it's finalized!
August 18: "Luther" (2003) — a more recent film treatment, starring Joseph Fiennes and Alfred Molina.

Church Basement Ladies at Fireside Theatre
Thursday, August 17 - Sign Up by May 30
Monona Methodist Church is sponsoring a trip to the Fireside to see the musical “Church Basement Ladies” on Thursday, August 17, and we’re invited to join them! “Church Basement Ladies follows the three cooks and one daughter who run the church kitchen and care for the congregation. We see them handle a Lutefisk Dinner, a funeral, an Easter fundraiser, and, of course, a wedding. They stave off potential disasters, have loads of fun, share and debate recipes, instruct the young, and keep the pastor on a steady course. The cost is $64.95 which includes dinner and tip. We will take a motor-coach which will cost an additional $15-$20 depending on how many people attend. Please sign up in the Narthex or with Pastor Edward before May 30.

Worship Time Survey
Click Here for Worship Time Survey
This survey is intended to allow us to gather your opinions regarding the Worship Schedule used at St. Stephen's during the 2016-2017 program year. As you may recall, we embarked on a new worship schedule in the fall of 2016, at which time we offered two communion worship opportunities (one at 9:00 am, and another at 11:00 am) with an education time available between the two services (roughly from 10:15 to 10:55). When these changes were proposed, your Ministry Board and staff promised to review them after a year to better assess how this schedule affected the congregation and its participation. We encourage you to provide your feedback as we seek to learn how this schedule has worked (or fallen short) so we can better serve the needs of our congregation and our community.

Come join our Seasoned Saints for their regular get-together on Saturday, July 15. This month we are going to visit the Mt. Horeb Sons of Norway annual Kaffe Stue at the Sons of Norway Lodge. There will be a typical Norwegian luncheon served from 9 to 11 a.m. All sorts of Norwegian goodies plus the open-faced sandwiches offered. Summer Music Classes for Youth!
Joyful Noise Community Youth Music Program (an outreach of St. Stephen’s to the community) has music classes available for children ages 2-grade three during the summer months. In
June, join us for activities that revolve around American folk and patriotic songs; in July, we will explore music from a more global perspective, with music games and songs from around the world; and in August, we’re going to be singing on the wild side as we learn some songs about animals. Come for one month or try them all! Three week sessions: June 12-28, July 10-26, August 7-23. Visit www.joyfulnoisemonona.com for class times and registration information.

Monona Munchies
Once again, we are looking for help to fix and serve lunches for hungry children in Monona this summer. Volunteers are asked to meet at the Monona Com-munity Center kitchen at 11:00 am to gather the food and serving supplies. Volunteers then carry them (or transport them in their vehicle) down to the shelter area in Schaefer Park (between the baseball diamonds next to Winnequah School) for preparation. We serve the meal to children and families from 11:45 am-12:30 pm. Please bring the supplies back up to the Monona Community Center kitchen and clean-up all areas and materials before leaving at about 12:45 pm. Thank you!
