"The Cross and The Lynching Tree"
April 2 at 12:00 pm Session I; Chapters 1-3
April 9 at 11:30 Session II; Chapters 4-5 & Conclusion
An opportunity for Lenten study and reflection: "The Cross
and The Lynching Tree" by James Cone will be available for
purchase through the church. James Cone is an
African-American theologian who has written several books.
Two discussion sessions are scheduled to share thoughts,
feelings, and reactions to reading Cone's book. While this
is an intense book, it is a very appropriate study for a
Lenten reflection, making very real the story of Jesus'
crucifixion and the reality of those stories of lynching in
Prayer Vigil, Holy Saturday,
The Prayer Vigil has been a tradition at St. Stephen’s for
many years. Once again, the sanctuary will be open for
prayer and contemplation from noon until 9:00pm on Holy
Saturday. People throughout the world will be joining our
offerings of prayer and reflection during this time. You may
choose to pray alone or invite others to join you in the
quiet of the sanctuary. As always, there will be resources
for your use if you desire. You will be given a key for the
Pheasant Hill door if you sign up for 2:00pm or beyond. Barb
Kepler will be handing out keys at both the Maundy Thursday
and Good Friday services. There is a sign-up sheet in the
narthex. May God richly bless you as you internalize the
meaning of the Cross.
