Book Group – Luther Biography
During this Reformation month is a good time to look at our
history and remember what has been central for our faith.
Copies are arriving of Martin Luther: A Life, written by
former Luther Seminary professor Jim Nestingen. We’ll
gather at the end of the month to discuss, and maybe watch
the movie. Books are $15, and one is available in the
October 26 & November 2 at
We are pleased to welcome Mary Kay Baum to our Sunday Forum.
She is a rostered leader in our synod and is appreciated for
her work raising awareness of cognitive health. She a early
onset Alzheimer's Disease and works tirelessly on behalf of
those dealing with dementia. This includes organizing a week
of camp at Lutherdale for children who have a loved one with
cognitive issues. Come for Sunday Forum both days and bring
your questions. How can we as a community of faith better
serve those with cognitive struggles?
Mom's Night Out

invite all you moms out there to join us for a Mom’s Night
Out (MNO)! Enjoy a great meal with no kids’ menu in sight.
Get to know other St. Stephen’s moms. Have a glass of wine.
Talk, talk, talk! (Maybe about the kids, maybe about the
struggles and joys of parenting, maybe about your faith
journey, or maybe just about that show you watch that’s got
you hooked.) Please join us at Coopers Tavern on Sunday,
October 19th, beginning at 6:00 p.m. (As always, please feel
free to come and go as your schedule demands.) Please RSVP
to Paige by that Sunday morning so we know how many
reservations to make.
Family Fellowship Time
Sundays at 9:35 a.m.
The Children and Families Ministry
Team would like to invite you to join us for a Family
Fellowship Time each Sunday from 9:35 to 9:55 a.m. Drop the
kids off at Sunday School and then grab a quick cup of
coffee, a snack, and a short conversation before heading
into the 10:00 Worship Service. It’s a great way to get to
know other St. Stephen’s parents and make some great
connections at a time that you’re probably already here
anyway. Call it Multitasking. Call it Networking. Or just
call it Caffeine and Conversation. But whatever you call it,
please join us!

join UW-Madison students for worship and supper at Lutheran Campus Ministry.

Children Receive Bibles
A day of remembering the church is "always reforming," we celebrate the
heritage of Luther and look forward, too! Students will receive Bibles since
"God's Word is our Great Heritage" (ELW Hymn #509)

shared meal Saturday, October 18 at Monona Gardens at 9:00am with great
conversation. Come one, come all.
Sunday, October 19
We gather at 1:00
pm at First Congregational near Camp Randall for the annual CROP Walk with
churches from around town and walks around the world. You can donate online
(click here) or at church. There are 1 and 3 mile walk options. You can
even walk and not fundraise as a way to show support and gratitude, since
25% of funds raised stay in Dane County, including helping our St. Stephen’s
Food Pantry! Contact Becky Mitchell for other info.
Annual Trunk or Treat
Sunday October 26 4:00-5:00 pm
It’s like Trick-or-Treating…except we all meet right here in the parking lot
of St. Stephen’s! Here’s how it works: Families clean out the trunk of their
vehicle and decorate it a using fun theme. Then, they grab some treats and
cruise over to church. Kids go from vehicle to vehicle “trick or treating”,
mingling with friends, looking at the decorations, and just generally having
a fun time wearing their costumes.

What: Moderate to strenuous climb (1.4 miles out and back)

Economic Inequality Conversation

God created a world of abundance, so why is there so much poverty and
economic distress? October 24 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at Lake Edge UCC Dr.
Edith Russell, PHD. Economics, will discuss the issues and strategize about
ways to work faithfully for a more just society.
