Typically our Lenten books are theologically sound, but
perhaps a bit dry and dense. Not this year! We’re reading
a novel by synod pastor Dan Bohlman, called
547 Days to
The Resurrection of a Pastor and a Small Town Church.
It’s not only got great insights on what it means to be
Lutheran church together, it’s also hilarious! Copies
MNO is a “come when you can” group. We know you’re busy! We

St. Stephen’s Foundation trustees announce the availability
of college scholarships for the 2015-2016 academic year.
The Foundation encourages qualifying students to apply if
they plan to seek, or are currently seeking, general
degrees and undergraduate degrees in agriculture, life
sciences or medical fields. Students who previously
applied and/or received scholarships, may reapply.
Application packets are available in the church office.
Letters from references are required, so be sure to get your
packet early enough to allow ample time to complete it. To
be considered, applicants must ensure that completed forms
are returned to the church office no later than Thursday,
April 30. While anyone who will enroll in college or
technical school for the 2015-16 academic year may apply,
trustees especially encourage members of St. Stephen’s to
consider filling out an application.
Youth and Sex
The Lutheran Office for Public Policy in Wisconsin (LOPPW)
is working to support youth survivors of sex trafficking.
There is a Safe Harbor Campaign Rally on Thursday, March 19,
beginning at 10:00 am at St. John’s Lutheran downtown and
then moving to advocate at the Capitol, asking legislators
that youth be treated as victims, not criminals and
requesting needed funding for survivors to find a safe
harbor. Click on the image to learn more and register, or go
to www.loppw.org or talk to Pastor Nick.

Prayers for Peace:
New Schedule on Sundays
March 15th, 9:10 a.m.
For many years, we have gathered at 5:30 on the 20th of every month for a ½
hour of prayers for peace between for Palestinians and Israelis, for our
sisters and brothers of the Lutheran church in the Holy Land, for our own
leaders. It has also been a time of advocacy and learning and updates and
staying connected. We are wanting to offer that opportunity to
more people, and so were are changing the schedule for our peace prayers.
Beginning in March, we will now meet during the 9:10 Forum time on the 3rd
Sunday of the month (March 15th). During this time we will sing, pray, and
light candles as we have for years. This month, we will also watch the
second part of a documentary on Augusta Victoria Hospital on the Mount of
Olives in East Jerusalem, the focus of our Lenten almsgiving offerings.
here for a promo video.) We hope to see you for prayers and more!
Annual Palm Sunday Celebration
We begin with our Palm Sunday processional walk from Gunderson Funeral Home
at 9:30. We will follow the donkey,
Gethsemane, up to the church. We will continue our worship in the sanctuary
at 10:00. This service is a blended service with a variety of music
featuring the choir, and Steadfast too! Following our worship together, join
us for coffee and fellowship in Koinonia Place.
Wisconsin Reads Leopold
The Saturday, March 7 is the day designated to read from A Sand County
Almanac and other writings of Aldo Leopold, Madison professor and founder of
ecological ethics. At the UW-Arboretum, readings are 9:00-3:00, and Pastor
Nick is scheduled just after 2:00, if you’d like to join in. There’s also a
copy of the book on our library cart!
Boundary Waters, Here We Come

and swimming? Mark your calendars for the Boundary Waters! Our dates are

rental of all gear and meals for 5 days/4 nights of paddling in the
wilderness! Sign up today with $100 deposit. Talk to Nick with questions.
